Valerie Smith commenced dancing at the age of 5 years in North London and continued from 9 years of age at the famous Italia Conti Stage School in London’s West End and enjoyed many stage, television, film and radio performances.  This included a lead role in a wonderful annual Christmas production ‘Where the Rainbow Ends’ at London Festival Hall and Coliseum, as well as appearing in BBC’s television series ‘Jane Eyre’ playing Adele.  What a wonderful way to spend your childhood?

Pantomimes, Seaside Summer Seasons and 6 London West End Musicals filled her days loving ‘Show Biz’!

When offered a contract to entertain on a cruise ship travelling to Australia, a wonderful opportunity to sing, dance and act whilst seeing the world and spending three months in Melbourne working on Channel 7’s daily television program ‘Time for Terry’ alongside Olivia Newton-John.

On return to London Valerie was cast in the epic film ‘Oh What A Lovely War’ and joined ‘Fiddler of the Roof’ at Londons Her Majesty’s Theatre where she met her husband Duncan Dunn a stage manager- and they decided to sail to Australia- both working on the Entertainment Crew and disembarking in Sydney.

Upon arrival in Sydney Valerie appeared weekly on the television programs ‘Tommy Leonitti Show’ on Channel 7 and ‘Sound of Music’ on Channel 9, as well as a solo cabaret act travelling around NSW Clubs.

Settling in a brand-new suburb- Davidson- children Lucinda and Cameron joined the family and in 1977 when a local dance school in Glenrose Shopping Centre, Belrose required a jazz teacher, Valerie commenced her new career as a teacher.  In 1991, Valerie opened her own school, which after 29 wonderful years closed its doors in Aquatic Drive, Frenchs Forest in December 2019.

Valerie is enjoying being part of Tanya Pearson Academy sharing her love of ‘everything dance’ with everyone who skips through the doors.
