ADAM BULL – FORMER PRINCIPAL ARTIST, THE AUSTRALIAN BALLET

Adam Bull is one of Australia’s most distinguished male dancers, celebrated for his exceptional artistry, commanding stage presence and two-decade career with The Australian Ballet. Known for his refinement, strength and dramatic depth, Adam has been widely recognised as a leading figure in both classical and contemporary repertoire.

Born and trained in Melbourne, Adam began his formal ballet training at Dance World 301 under Brian Nolan before graduating with honours from The Australian Ballet School. He represented Australia in the Paris International Ballet Competition in 2000 and joined The Australian Ballet in 2002. Just six years later, he was promoted to Principal Artist, a position he held for the remainder of his illustrious career.

Throughout his time with the company, Adam performed all major classical lead roles, including Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake, Albrecht in Giselle, des Grieux in Manon, and Prince Désiré in The Sleeping Beauty. His versatility extended across contemporary works by some of the world’s most influential choreographers, among them Jiří Kylián, Wayne McGregor, Christopher Wheeldon and Graeme Murphy. His performances were frequently praised for their musicality, dramatic nuance and technical assurance.

Adam’s career included international guest appearances in Europe, Asia and the United States, as well as nominations for prestigious awards such as the Benois de la Danse and multiple Green Room Awards.

Following his retirement from The Australian Ballet in 2023, Adam has become a highly sought-after coach and mentor, sharing his knowledge with the next generation of dancers. His extensive experience, deep understanding of performance craft and passion for nurturing young talent make him an invaluable contributor to the Tanya Pearson Academy.

We are honoured to welcome Adam Bull as a Guest Artist-in-Residence, offering our students rare insight into the technique, discipline and artistry required at the highest level of the profession.
