CHENGWU GUO – PRINCIPAL ARTIST, THE AUSTRALIAN BALLET
Growing up in China, Chengwu Guo began dance classes at the age of eleven. He was accepted into the Beijing Dance Academy, where he combined rigorous ballet training with academic studies. His exceptional talent quickly emerged, earning him gold medals at both the Tao Li Bei of China Competition and the Beijing International Competition.
In 2006, Chengwu won a prize at the prestigious Prix de Lausanne in Switzerland, earning a full scholarship to complete his vocational ballet training. He chose The Australian Ballet School, where he toured regional Australia with The Dancers Company and received critical acclaim for his performances in The Sleeping Beauty, Graduation Ball, and Coppélia.
Since joining The Australian Ballet in 2008, Chengwu has excelled in leading roles, including Siegfried in Swan Lake, Basilio in Don Quixote, Albrecht in Giselle, Puck in The Dream, Solor in La Bayadère, and The Prince in The Nutcracker. His repertoire also includes Études, Romeo & Juliet, Checkmate, Concerto, and Firebird.
Promoted to Principal Artist in 2013, Chengwu continues to captivate audiences with his artistry and versatility.
